I believe AI does more harm than good because of its negative effects on jobs, privacy and social interactions.
The Problem
I believe AI is transforming our lives in harmful ways, especially for teens. For example, according to Common Sense Media over 70% of teens use AI for homework because they believe it helps them. However, relying on AI too much makes it harder for us to learn how to solve problems independently, since it stops us from thinking critically, because of that we should use AI more carefully. Another concern is that AI might take over jobs in the future, which can lead to people losing their jobs and not being able to earn money to buy their necessities. Additionally, AI can invade our privacy. For example, drones can follow people without their permission, making them feel uncomfortable. The New York Times reports that while these drones are fun gadgets they can also be used to watch people secretly, which is a big problem.
Another serious issue
I believe AI does more harm than good because it affects our communication and trust with others. First, talking with AI makes people less social and makes it harder for us to create real friendships. According to a Harvard Education Publishing Group article, AI “reflects a real change in behavior” since it makes people lack social skills. Second, AI can create fake pictures, videos, and voices, which trick people and spread fake information. This can cause confusion and make it harder to know what’s true. Because of these risks, we should be careful when using AI and think about how it can harm our social skills and spread misinformation.
