What are extracurricular activities?
Extracurricular activities (or clubs) are after school programs that you sign up for in order to learn more about a topic or simply just for fun. In the school there are many clubs in which you can sign up for such as art, dance, piano, and so much more.
(The clubs available and their descriptions are below.)
How do you join?
To join these clubs you first need to sign up for it. To sign up you need a permission slip which you can get by asking the teachers or staff that are associated with the club. When you get the permission slips (NOTICE: sometimes the time to join a club expires), look over the information to see if you’re willing to actually go attend a club. After deciding that you want to join, ask a guardian (an adult who looks after you) to sign the paper. When you’re finished with that you can give in the permission slip and you’re in!
What clubs are there?
The clubs that are in the school are:
- Art Club
- Theatre
- Dancing
- Journalism Club
- Debate Team
- Math Team
- Piano Club
Art Club
In this creative club, led by Mr. De la Cruz, students learn how to use art techniques and tools, such as using oil pastels and how to shade objects. Eventually in the club, members will do many projects such as helping to illustrate and color backgrounds which will be used by the Theatre Club.
Theatre
“Where words fail, there is music,” says Ms. Boland, the leader of the team which annually performs exciting musical plays. In this club, students plan and rehearse a play which will be performed near the end of the year.
Dance Club
In this active club, team members practice to dance to different types of music. This club also works for Theatre in order to make a great play, I mean, how can there be a play with no dancing? This team may also participate in the school Talent Show.
Journalism Club
In the Journalism Club, led by Ms. Baker, students report and write news for the community to read. In this club, students write articles (such as I am writing this) about a variety of topics such as sports and opinion. Before posting anything on the news website, the club members check and edit articles to ensure the best quality of work. In the club, each member has a role to do in order to make great stories.
Debate Team
In this arguing team (get it? Debate?) led by Ms. Pitre and Ms. Ureña students gain confidence and practice on public speaking by debating on certain topics, whether that be “If schools should ban phones?” to “Should uniforms be in schools?” and so much more. Eventually, students will participate in a tournament where the best debaters shall win!
Math Team
In the math team, lead by Ms. Hou, the students study in order to hopefully win #1 place in a tournament. What is the tournament about? The tournament is where students compete against each other as teams by completing math problems in hopes of earning a trophy for their efforts. The students study by doing fun activities such as “Kahoot!” (very fun) and solving math problems so they can enhance their skills in order to prepare them for the big day.
Piano Club
In the Piano Club, led by Ms. Hou, students learn how to improve their piano skills and how to play new piano pieces. Students could eventually use their newly improved skills in order for a possible chance to perform for the school talent show.
