Ms. Alexandra K, is an 8th grade math teacher and has been teaching for over 20 years. She began working at PSIS 218 starting in September. Outside of the school, she is also a mother of two children. When Ms. K was young, she spent a lot of time watching tennis. The sport fascinated her, and she dreamed of becoming a tennis player herself. As she grew older, she finally had the chance to take tennis lessons, which made her love the sport even more.
Ms. K graduated college in 1995, during that time, she studied Environmental Science, a field focused on protecting the environment and preserving nature. Because conservation interested her, she moved to Costa Rica after college. While she lived in Costa Rica, she needed money so she taught English and that’s when she decided she loved to teach. In 1996 she moved back to the United States and became a math and science teacher in Brooklyn. Ms. K has also worked with homeless youth and traveled with young people in Latin America throughout her career.
Although she loves teaching, sports continue to play an important role in her family. Both of her sons became athletes as well—her first son plays MLS Next soccer which is the highest level a youth can play. Her second son plays baseball. Ms. K’s love of sports, learning, and teaching has shaped both her career and her family life.
