The 2025 World Series was the final championship round of the Major League Baseball season. It featured the Toronto Blue Jays, based in Canada, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, located in Southern California. After a long season and several playoff rounds, the Blue Jays shocked the baseball world by going to the World Series but lost 4 to 3. The series took place in both Toronto’s Rogers Centre and Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium, and it ended with winning it back-to-back.
What made this World Series especially exciting were the unexpected highlights. The Dodgers came in as the favorites because they had one of the most talented (and expensive) teams in baseball. They also had Shohei Ohtani, one of the most remarkable players in history. But the Blue Jays—who were not expected to win played with confidence and great teamwork. They hit important home runs, made key defensive plays, and came back from behind in Game 4, which changed the momentum of the entire series. Their surprising victory reminded everyone that in baseball, anything can happen.
Money is always an important topic in professional sports, and baseball is no exception. Unlike the NFL, which has a strict salary cap (a rule that limits how much each team can spend on players), Major League Baseball does not have a salary cap. Instead, MLB uses something called a “luxury tax.” Teams that spend a lot of money on player salaries must pay extra fees, but they are still allowed to spend as much as they want. This means wealthy teams can build very powerful rosters, which is why the Dodgers often have some of the most expensive players.
However, one challenge goes beyond money: Shohei Ohtani. Ohtani is unique because he is both an excellent pitcher and an exceptional hitter something we haven’t seen at this level since Babe Ruth. Any team that signs him gains a huge advantage, no matter what salary rules exist. His incredible talent shows that sometimes, even in a sport filled with financial debates, one extraordinary player can make all the difference.
